What the Dog Saw
and other Adventures
By Malcom Gladwell
Malcom Gladwell always delivers. I love this collection of his essays from The New Yorker magazine. His perspective on life causes one to really think differently. It causes us to radically change our understanding of our world around us. I didn’t read the entire book but rather focused on Part Three of the book. This last part of the book focused on people which is the business I am in. With such titles as Most Likely to Succeed-How Do We Hire When We Can’t Tell Who’s Right for the Job? and The Talent Myth-Are Smart People Overrated? really allowed to me to look at job applicants very differently. Someday I will indulge in the first two parts of the book. One third of the book gave me enough to ponder for a while. 4 out of 5 stars.
So What?
By Mark Magnacca
How to Communicate What Really Mattters to Your Audience
I found this book in our local Goodwill Bookstore. It was an easy read (142 Pages). I was able to get some great quotes and practical tools. If you are looking to prepare an important presentation and you don’t know where to start, this book is for you. It helps you persuade anyone about anything whether it be a presentation, resume, sales pitch etc. Each short chapter has a summary of “take aways”. My copy was published in 2009 so there was definitly a lack of current social media references but overall it had solid practices and questions to transcend all time. A small find that turned out to be a gem. 4 Stars out 5.
